Historic Campus

Our Historic Campus was built in 1854 and is one of the oldest churches in the area.
We offer a variety of weekly services at this location, including:

Gracetime

Saturdays @5:28 pm

Saturday evenings on the Historic Campus are a time to casually gather for Scripture reading, Biblical messages, prayer, and the singing of hymns and praise songs led by a band of acoustic guitars, keyboard, tambourine, and vocalists. Communion is offered weekly at this evening service which gets its name from 1 Thessalonians 5:28 – The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

Traditional Liturgical Service

Sundays @8:00 am

A traditional liturgical service is held on Sunday mornings beginning at 8 am with the ringing of the bell from the bell tower on the banks of the May River. The faithful gather each week to participate in the reading of Scripture, Biblical messages, singing of traditional hymns, recitation of prayers and creeds, and sharing Communion at the altar.

Blended Service

Sundays @10:00am

Sunday mornings when the bell tolls at 10 am, the Church gathers for a service offering a blend of both traditional and contemporary styles through Scripture reading, Biblical messages, the singing of hymns and more contemporary songs, the reading of prayers and creeds, and the sharing of Communion at the altar. During the service a nursery is available for infants and toddlers, along with a children’s program created for younger children from preschool through the 4th grade. The children join their families for Communion during the service.

Weekly Guided Tours

Mon-Thu @11:00am-2:00pm (please call ahead)

Docents are on the Historic Campus to allow visitors to have a guided tour on Monday through Thursday from 11 am – 2 pm. If you are planning a visit, please call (843-757-2661) ahead because these hours are subject to change if we have funerals or special services during the regular docent hours. A Beekeeper in 1991 at The Church of the Cross

Holy Honey

Attending services at the church before the renovations took place in 1990, could be risky. A portion of the northern wall of the church, built in 1854-57, had honey bees in residence. They were finally evicted in 1991-92 when a new copper roof was being installed. The beekeeper removed 48 colonies of bees.

The honey collected from the walls was originally sold to raise money for the church. A local beekeeper now provides the “Holy Honey” and we continue to sell the honey at the church to help fund women’s ministries and events.

Learn more about Holy Honey by reading a recent article from Local Life Magazine. Honey can be purchased during docent tours on the Historic Campus (Monday-Thursday from 11am-2pm) or at the Parish Offices at 491 Buckwalter Parkway (Monday-Thursday 9am-4:30pm).

Get Involved with Our Ministries

One of the most important ways to get connected at The Church of the Cross is to first become a member of our congregation. If you are not a member and you are interested in learning more about membership, please call the Parish Office (843.757.2661) and speak to Sue.

Membership begins with an informal meeting with clergy. The next step in getting connected would be joining a Bible Study or small group to be in community with other Believers.

Pray

Want us to pray for someone in need? Submit a prayer request (with their permission) and your prayer will be communicated with our clergy, Church staff, and Intercessory Prayer Team volunteers.

The person will remain on the prayer list for four weeks or until the office is notified otherwise.

Give

Everything we own and everything we have comes from God. So, when we give, we simply offer him a small portion of the abundance he has already given to us.

Giving is an expression of our thankfulness and praise to God, and there are various ways to give at The Church of the Cross.
